Rick and Shane decide the deer being eaten by a zombie would not be worth eating themselves, because there is the possibility of disease in the deer. They hear the gunshot from camp, and rush back. Rick comforts Lori, and Shane shows obvious disgust while watching them.
During the night, Shane is keeping watch on top of the RV and Rick climbs up to chat with him. Rick argues that their camp is not safe, and that the fact that winter is coming only makes it worse. Shane snaps, saying that being close to the city is their best chance at being rescued; the only thing is, they don't know when (or if) they will get rescued.
In the morning, Rick decides the group needs guns to defend themselves against zombies, and with the guidance of Jim, who knew the location of a gun store, Rick and Glenn set out to Atlanta once more. Glenn checks the map to find the place Jim talked about, but notices it's 5 blocks from where Glenn and Rick met. Glenn had never been that far into the city before, and it was surely infested with zombies. Rick has an idea to solve this problem. He explains that the zombies never attack each other, and reasons that the reason for this must be the smell. He hacks off a nearby zombie's hand and instructs Glenn to rub it all over his clothes. Rick does the same with some of the zombie's guts, and after a Glenn throws up a few times, they make their way to the city.
When they arrive, they test their new scent on a sitting zombie. It doesn't notice at all, and lets them continue walking. They make their way further into the city where they see a gun store and a huge horde of zombies. They break in, take lots of guns and ammo, and put it into a shopping cart. When they walk outside again, they notice it has just begun to rain. Soon enough, it is a downpour, and their scent has started wearing off. The zombies notice them now, and have started chasing them down. They run out of the city and through a fence and arrive safely in a field.
Lori is at the camp, worrying about Rick and talking to Shane about it. Shane tries to comfort her, but she turns him away. Shane mentions "that night," but Lori only says that what happened was a mistake.
