The Kill Order pages 71-100

As the group prepares to go to bed, Lana tells them that they should not sleep near each other.  Mark falls asleep, and has another flashback from the past.  Trina and Mark are still running, and they are being chased.  They finally escape into a small opening, and they think that whoever was following them was not close enough to see them go into the opening.  However, there are some men who eventually find them and threaten them.  After that, a man bursts into the room and beats up the men.  It was Alec.

Mark wakes up from his dream and the group eats breakfast.  Using their new workpad, they head out and trek through the Appalachian Mountains.  Trina pulls Mark aside and they decide staying apart is useless, because they both feel fine.  They kiss, then head back to camp, keeping what happened a secret from the others.  Later, when Mark is looking at the constellations in the sky, he hears crackling in the forest, and Toad appears.  He sees Mark and tells him, "There are things living inside my skull."

Toad is very upset that the group left him, even though he insisted on it, and he won't stop talking about the things inside his head.  He describes how Misty died in his arms, and how the things crawled out of her head and into his.  He says that him and the things in his head had to put her out of her misery.  Telling the story made him upset, and he finally loses it.  Alec dragged him into the forest, and Toad's screams suddenly stopped.

The group talks about the virus and its symptoms, and Trina becomes very mad at Alec for killing Toad.  They began walking again, and found another town.  They decided to go over to it, and they encountered the same smell that had taken over their original camp.  A little girl began walking toward them.  Trina asked her questions about her group, and she says that they had all run into the forest.

Her name is Deedee.  Her parents had both been shot by darts and her brother had fled into the forest with the others.  She reveals a hole in her arm, which is a wound from one of the darts.  They decide to take Deedee with them, even though she is probably infected.
