The Kill Order pages 101-130

Mark flashes back to his experience in the underground after he and Trina met Alec.  Alec tells them that he thinks is pretty sure these problems were caused by the sun flares.  Alec invites Mark and Trina into his group, and tells them they only have an hour to get above ground before the passageways flood and kill them all.  Mark forced himself to wake up from the dream, not wanting to relive that day.  Mark considers waking Trina, but decides against it.  He doesn't want to go back to sleep.  He didn't need to be asleep to picture the day, to picture Alec telling him about the rapid melting of the polar ice caps and the high possibility of a tsunami.  Alec told him and Trina about how Manhattan would be submerged in water within hours in a room far underground.

Alec tells them they need to get to the Lincoln Building.  Mark, Trina, Alec, Toad, Lana, Misty, Darnell, and a 13-year-old boy named Baxter are all running down one of the passageways.  As they make their way down one of the newer passages, they hear the voices of a crowd.  They eventually get to the stairs leading to the outside world, and they see cut, burned, severely injured people.  A group of people step in front of their group and start harassing Alec.  Alec punches one of them, but soon they hear a loud, rumbling sound.  A giant wall of dirty water has started pouring down the steps toward them.

Mark wakes up and finds his face covered in tears.  They decide to move on and continue walking, and Mark is worried about the group that left behind Deedee attacking them.  The group is energized by a snack break and the thought of being so close to their  destination, and they keep walking.

Alec checks the workpad to make sure they're still on the right track, and he finds out they are about 5 miles away from the destination.  The group settles down for dinner, and they suddenly hear a woman singing.  Soon enough, the woman's voice is joined by many more, and Alec decides to investigate.  Mark goes with him, leaving the girls behind.  Deedee started talking immediately, saying how she knew that that was her group, and to watch out for the man with no ears.

After walking silently through the forest, Alec and Mark encounter the group.  They are sitting around a fire, singing with more volume and intensity.  Alec and Mark discuss the situation, but they are heard by a woman, who invites them to join their "praises to nature and the spirits."  Two people walk over to them, and questioned why they're here.  Mark asks them why they left Deedee behind, and the woman quickly ties a rope around his and Alec's necks, and they begin to be dragged down the mountain towards the fire.

Alec relentlessly tried fighting back against the people, but he could not overpower them.  Mark questions about Deedee again, and they explain that the spirits ordered them to do it, and they were seeking holier places.  They think that Deedee brought the Berg attack, and that's why they left her behind.  The woman calls Alec and Mark demons, and they get kicked several times before a man tells them to stop.  The man comes into view; he has no hair or ears.
