The Kill Order pages 1-50

In the prologue, Thomas and Teresa, the main characters of the series, are shown as Thomas is about to enter the Maze.  The prologue is from the point of view of Teresa, and she is sad because Thomas is getting a surgery to erase all memories of his past in order to help a huge corporation to complete experiments in an attempt to cure a disease that has spread throughout the world.  Teresa goes with the security guards as they take Thomas to the Box, which will deliver him up to the Maze.

Chapter 1 takes place 13 years before the prologue.  It introduces Alec and Mark.  Alec is an older man who was formerly in the military.  Mark is a teenager, but he is not related to Alec.  After Mark wakes up, he immediately gets dressed and goes to see Trina, who he is in love with.  He finds her reading on top of a mountain.

Trina and Thomas talk about the sun flares that have devastated the world and what life was like before the disaster occurred.  They go back to their camp, where they see Alec and Lana, a former army nurse.  Later, after they all talk for a while, they suddenly hear the sound of engines in the sky.

One of the members of the group, Misty, thinks the aircraft (a Berg) is coming to rescue them.  A hatch opened up on the Berg, and 5 people appeared from the inside.  The people were holding black tubes and aiming them at the crowd.  Someone shot something out of the tube, and it lodged itself into one of Mark's friends, Darnell's shoulder.  He collapsed to the ground.

Mark immediately grabbed Darnell by the shoulders and tried to carry him to safety, and he continues hearing the sounds of darts thunking into people and screaming.  Lana, Alec, Trina, and Mark carried Darnell into the woods and into an alley between two log cabins.  As the crowds fled, the Berg began to change position and follow the group.  Mark wonders where Alec is as they continue dragging Darnell along.  The group begins to get tired and they question whether they made the right choice in bringing Darnell with them.  Mark realizes it's time to make a move.  He picks up a piece of wood and, without telling the others, runs toward a clearing to find Alec, and holds the wood over his head as a shield.

When Mark meets up with Alec, he is handed a pistol and begins shooting at the Berg with Alec.  After Mark hits one of the shooters, Alec takes a grappling hook and fires it at the Berg.  He successfully reached the inside, and shot 3 people immediately.  Alec instructed Mark to use the other grappling hook to try to reach the Berg.  After lots of struggling trying to operate the grappling hook, it finally works and Mark made it through.

They found themselves in a room with a locked door and no way out.  Alec decides to fight back against whoever fired the darts at his group.  After some searching, Mark finds a sledgehammer and Alec starts trying to break down the door with it.  Mark continues searching through the room, and he finds a few sealed boxes.  All of them said the same thing: Virus VC321xb47. Highly Contagious. 24 darts, Extreme Caution.

Alec has nearly broken down the door, and Mark finds a wrench to use as a weapon.  As soon as they got the door open, 3 darts shot at them but they all missed.  They made their way to the pilot's room.  When they tell the pilots to stop the Berg, they refuse and proceed to crash the Berg immediately, while saying they were "Just following orders."

Mark flashes back to being with Trina in a subway-type vehicle before the solar flares.  Suddenly, the lights went out and they decide to leave the vehicle to investigate.  After some running, they encounter naked, burned bodies on the ground.
